Fan Girl Football Podcast Recap: NFL Week Preview, Fantasy Tips, and Super Bowl Picks

Welcome back, football fans! This week, we’re diving deep into the latest NFL news, player updates, and revenge games to watch, and of course, our Super Bowl predictions for the season. If you’re following along with us, we’ve got some exciting games and fantasy football tips lined up for you. Let’s get into it!

Injury Updates: Kendrick Bourne & The Prevalence of ACL Injuries

Kendrick Bourne, wide receiver for the New England Patriots, has been placed on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list following a torn ACL in Week 8 of last season. This unfortunate injury could mean increased targets for other players like DeMario Douglas, KJ Osborne, and Jalyn Polk. However, with their WR1 out, the Patriots are projected to struggle against the Bengals this week, so they may not be the best fantasy options.

Fantasy Tip: Stay away from Patriots players for now unless they face a favorable matchup. Bourne may have been playable in specific situations last year, but don’t rush to pick up Patriots’ options in your fantasy draft.

The Rising Concern of ACL Injuries

With so many ACL injuries piling up across the league, including six of the seven players discussed this week, it’s worth diving deeper into the impact these injuries have on teams and individual players. How common are ACL injuries in the NFL? What percentage of players face this career-altering injury? We’re adding this to our list of topics to research, so stay tuned for a future podcast episode where we dig into the stats and trends behind these injuries.

Revenge Games to Watch This Week

Baltimore Ravens @ Kansas City Chiefs (Thursday Night Game)

Last season, Kansas City knocked out Baltimore in the AFC Championship, winning 17-10 in a low-scoring game. Lamar Jackson led his team in rushing but had three turnovers, including two that directly affected the outcome. The Ravens have since added powerhouse RB Derrick Henry to bolster their offense, and he’s itching to prove himself against Kansas City.

Key Stat: Lamar Jackson is 1-4 when facing Patrick Mahomes.

Our Take: With both teams set on making a Super Bowl run this year, this matchup promises to be an exciting one. Will we see another 17-10 defensive battle, or will these offenses explode under the pressure? We can’t wait to find out!

Los Angeles Rams @ Detroit Lions

Another revenge game to watch is the Rams facing off against the Lions, who knocked them out of the playoffs last year, 24-23. The Rams were riddled with injuries in that game, but they kept it close. This time around, they’re looking to turn the tables.

Key Injuries: Matthew Stafford played through a hand injury, Kyren Williams was banged up, and Tyler Higbee tore both his ACL and MCL.

Our Take: The Rams are still not at full strength, but Detroit looks poised for another playoff run. Detroit’s defense will need to step up, but we think they’ll pull out the win in what could be a high-scoring affair.

    Super Bowl Predictions for 2024

Now, onto the fun part—Super Bowl predictions! We’re going bold this year, and here are our picks:

    Judy’s Picks:

Cincinnati Bengals, Detroit Lions Super Bowl Winner: Miami Dolphins

Cincinnati has the weapons, but Detroit has been building something special. This could finally be their year to go all the way.

    Tiffany’s Picks:

AFC Champion: Miami Dolphins NFC Champion: Detroit Lions Super Bowl Winner: Miami Dolphins

I’m banking on Tyreek Hill and the Dolphins offense to explode this year. I believe Miami has what it takes to outlast the Lions.

    Lauren’s Picks:

AFC Champion: Houston Texans NFC Champion: Detroit Lions Super Bowl Winner: Houston Texans

I know it’s a long shot, but I’m rocking my Houston Texans gear and putting faith in their rebuild. Could this be their Cinderella story?
